Speaks Volumes Mission Statement

The charity's objectives are:

  • To preserve the health, and advance the education and development of people with limited literacy through the provision of, and training in, the use of appropriate technology. The charity will work in the fields of dyslexia, aphasia, dysphasia, autism, Asperger’s Syndrome and related problems.
  • To give telephone information on appropriate technological solutions, such as voice recognition systems, to people suffering from literacy and communication problems and to their parents and carers.
  • To raise public awareness of the problems faced by people with literacy and communication problems and to educate the public in the benefits of technological solutions.
  • To demonstrate appropriate technology to those who could benefit from it.
  • To provide training and support in the use of technology and to train volunteers to provide those services and to facilitate the development of a cohesive support network.
  • To fund the purchase of technical aids such as voice recognition systems, to enable beneficiaries to become independently literate and gain confidence and self esteem.
  • To develop links with schools, colleges and other agencies supporting people with literacy and communication problems.

Speaks Volumes is registered with the Charity Commission for England and Wales and has the charity registration number 1119867. It operates in the UK; its members have a high level of interest in enabling all members of society to communicate freely via the written word.
